'TRAINING, NOT RACING, GIVES ARMSTRONG HIS EDGE'
by Samuel Abt, New York Times
...both Armstrong and his coach, Chris Carmichael, said that aerobic training was what set Armstrong apart from the other riders.
"I do a lot of specific work, no really intense work. It's all subthreshold...the purpose is to push your [anaerobic] threshold up and I believe the only way to push it up is to train below it. If you train above it, ultimately you're going to push the threshold down."
-Lance Armstrong, now 3-time winner of the Tour de France ATTENTION ROWERS:
For all of you who think next year is so far off and you don't need to train this summer...
"A sizable decrease (6-7%) has been noted in maximum volume of oxygen, physical working capacity, total hemoglobin and blood volume, following just one week of complete rest. Fitness benefits are completely lost after 4-8 weeks of detraining."
Fall season is 10 weeks away.

I created this page primarily for the reason of making Cornell Crew faster. I'm using it to help get everyone informed on how to train smarter, (which is not necessarily always harder), than our competition. It is the job of our coaches to help us be technically sound, and our own responsibility to be in the best physiological condition we can. So, I'm also posting my own training schedule/log, and anyone who emails me what they are doing for training or conditioning I will also post your information. This way everyone can see what the rest of the team is doing and perhaps benefit themselves. |
